The Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation annually awards grants for scientific research, for creating prerequisites for artistic work and experiencing art in the society as well as for the promotion of an inclusive civil society.

In the general grant application call this spring, there are 35 grant recipients and one department from Aalto University. The grants awarded total EUR 694,000, of which the majority, 30 grants, goes to dissertation work. Other grants are for research, publication and organising of a scientific event. There are grant recipients from all six Aalto schools.

This year, the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation will distribute EUR 13.2 million to projects in the fields of science (61 %), art (22 %) and societal activities (17 %). The majority of this, EUR 9.2 million, was awarded through a general grant application call in May 2021. There are a total of 447 grant recipients. Most of the grant recipients do scientific research with the grant. The distributed amount includes 183 doctoral dissertation or post doc grants, of which 132 are full-time.

In the grant application process this spring, the Foundation received more than 5,100 applications. The number of applications decreased by almost nine percent from the previous year, and almost nine percent of the applicants were awarded grants.
