Apply for grants from the Fabian and Jaakko Ahvenainen Fund - deadline 31 January 2025

Grants will be admitted in recognition of studies completed either in the field of bridge engineering or in the field of structural engineering and building physics, or as support for postgraduate studies in these fields.

The grant committee for the Aalto University’s Fabian ja Jaakko Ahvenainen Fund announces grants that will be admitted in recognition of the studies completed either in the field of bridge engineering or in the field of structural engineering and building physics or as support for postgraduate studies in these fields. The grants range from 2000 euros to 6000 euros. The grants and their values will depend on the number of applicants and the level of applicant’s studies.

Grant criteria

Eligible grant applicants include Master's degree students and post-graduate students of the School of Engineering at Aalto University as well as persons who recently completed their Master's or postgraduate degrees at Aalto University and familiarized with bridge engineering, structural engineering or building physics in their studies.

Applications

A short free-form application to the grant committee should include:

  1. The applicant's specialization in bridge engineering, structural engineering or building physics 
  2. The applicant's academic performance 
  3. The applicant's contact information (name, email address and telephone number). 
  4. The applicant is asked to mention in the application whether the emphasis of applicant’s studies has been on “bridge engineering” or “structural engineering and building physics”.
  5. The application must also include the name of the thesis and the name of the thesis supervisor.

Enclosures:

  1. Extract of study records 
  2. Degree certificate with course list if the applicant has graduated.

Applications must be submitted to the Department of Civil Engineering via email to ahvenaisenrahasto@aalto.fi by 31 January 2025.

The Fabian and Jaakko Ahvenainen Fund equally supports both the field of bridge engineering and the field of structural engineering and building physics in the long-term. In the assessment of applications, the purpose of the donator of initial capital to promote constructive structural engineering will also be considered.

The grants will be published and awarded in April. Grant recipients will be informed by email.
