New e book apps will replace Adobe Digital Editions from 20 May
You can still read e‑books directly in your browser in all services without installing any software. Downloading individual chapters to your device also remains unchanged.
The change applies only to downloading entire e‑books for offline reading. With the new apps, you can download e-books to your device for a limited time and read them without an internet connection.
App: Ebook Central Reader App. Available for mobile devices and computers (Windows, macOS, iOS and Android).
Download the app: You can download the app from your device’s app store or via a link in Ebook Central. If you use an Aalto University Windows workstation, you can install the app from the Self‑Service Portal. Find the portal by searching Windows for “Software SelfServicePortal – Aalto IT”. Downloading books and registering your device: Requires signing in to your Ebook Central account (click “Sign in” in the top right). If you do not have credentials yet, you can create them in Ebook Central.
Registration also requires a 7‑digit code. You’ll receive it during the download process or under Profile → EBS app devices.
Note: If you have downloaded e-books to Adobe Digital Editions, they will be automatically synced to the new app.

App: Thorium Reader. Available for computers and for iOS devices. The Android version is not yet available.

Downloading books and registering your device: Downloading an e‑book requires signing into MyEBSCO account with your Aalto credentials.
Thorium Reader requires a passphrase to open downloaded EBSCO e‑book. This passphrase is provided to you when you download the EBSCO e‑book file to your device.

App: VLeBooks App. Available for mobile devices and computers (Windows, macOS, iOS and Android).

Downloading books and registering your device: Downloading an e‑book requires signing into the VLeBooks service with your Aalto credentials.
You will need to enter an Access Code in the VLeBooks App. You can find the code in the VLeBooks service under your account (My account → VLeBooks App), where you can click “Generate New Access Code” if needed.
Note: Adobe Digital Editions still works alongside the VLeBooks App for now, but VLeBooks will look to phase out Adobe Digital Editions in the future.
