The Dean also rewards School of Business students for other merits besides excellent grades

NEW DEADLINE: 31 Oct. 2023. The aim of the new Dean’s Impact Award is to show our appreciation for promoting sustainable development or action in line with Aalto’s values

Timo Korkeamäki, Dean of the School of Business, traditionally rewards students who have completed their degree within the time goal and with honours. This recognition (a place on the Dean’s list) is awarded to some thirty students who have completed their bachelor’s or master’s degree in the preceding academic year.

Many other things besides achieving excellent grades are valuable – at least this year, the Dean wants to reward 1–3 students or student teams on grounds other than excellent grades.

Criteria for the Dean’s Impact Award

The Dean’s Impact Award will be awarded for the first time at the end of 2023, and it may be awarded for a wide range of merits.

The award may be granted to a student or a student team who have significantly promoted a more sustainable future at Aalto or beyond. This may be a concrete act, exemplary action or something else that indicates working effectively for sustainable development. Here too, sustainable development covers environmental, social and economic sustainability. Alternatively, the award may be granted for exemplary promotion of the other two cross‑cutting themes of Aalto, i.e., radical creativity and/or entrepreneurial mindset.

Similarly, any action that is in line with Aalto’s values is highly valued. If their actions show a strong sense of responsibility, courage and/or collaboration, the student may be rewarded with the Dean's Impact Award.

Please send your proposals with justifications by 31 October

Anyone (from Aalto or not) can submit proposals on who should receive the award. The proposals and their justifications must be submitted in writing to the Dean’s assistant Iina Salmela at iina.salmela(at)aalto.fi no later than 31 October 2023*. You can also submit attachments to support your proposal, if necessary. There are no specific formal requirements for the proposals and their justifications. Enter the abbreviation DIA in the subject field of your email: ‘and your own heading’ to make your proposal clearly stand out from other messages. (DIA = Dean’s Impact Award)

The final decision on the prize (EUR 1,000 each) will be made by the dean after discussing the matter with KY representatives. The awarded students and their merits will be announced in the communication channels of the School of Business by the end of 2023.

*First, the deadline for proposal was 20 October, but now our Dean has given a few more days for submitting proposals the new DL being now 31 October 2023. Thank you!
