Professor in acoustics Tapio Lokki named AES Fellow
The Audio Engineering Society (AES) has elevated Professor Tapio Lokki to the status of AES fellow, which is reserved for highly merited members. Lokki is a professor at the Department of Computer Science at the Aalto University.
The AES is an international society of audio professionals, which has about 12000 members worldwide. The society names annually a few of its members with extraordinary accomplishments with the status of AES Fellow. For Professor Tapio Lokki this honor was granted on 20 May, 2017, in a convention held in Berlin, Germany. Previously, less than ten Finns have been given the AES Fellow status.
Professor Lokki's citation for promotion is “for bringing sensory evaluation to research of concert hall acoustics”. Lokki and his team have invented novel methodology to capture and reproduce the acoustics of concert halls authentically in the laboratory conditions. Such technology enables very accurate comparison of different acoustical conditions, in particular with sensory evaluation methods that go beyond preference judgments.
Lokki has worked as a professor at the Aalto University since 2012.
