The Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence FCAI’s highly popular seminar series Machine Learning Coffee Seminar (MLCS) started running again in September 2020, this time online. The MLCS seminars take place weekly on Monday mornings and they are organized by FCAI and hosted by researchers at the University of Helsinki and Aalto University. These events gather together people from different fields of science who have at least one thing in common: interest in machine learning.

Markus Heinonen, Academy Research Fellow who is one of the organizers, is very excited about the upcoming programme.

“We will have a great lineup of speakers. One of the highlight talks will be undoubtedly by Professor Aapo Hyvärinen. I’m also looking forward to a talk from NVIDIA about optimising models with GPUs, while we will also hear talks from a visiting professor Andrew Howes from University of Birmingham, and from a new Aalto ML professor Vikas Garg, who is an MIT-alumni”, Heinonen says.

Heinonen adds that MLCS is aimed at the Finnish research community. “The talks are interesting for academics, students and industry people alike. We strive for high-quality and open scientific presentation. The talks will cover the most recent Finnish research highlights on machine learning.”
