Harri Piitulainen becomes Academy Research Fellow

The Research Council decided to grant Academy Research Fellow salary funding to 11 applicants for the period 1 September 2016 ‒ 31 August 2021.

Harri Piitulainen from the Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering received funding for his research Proprioception in sensorimotor integration in health and disease.

Piitulainen and his team develops a movement actuators for neuroimaging (MEG, EEG, fMRI) to study the structure and function of the proprioception related brain network, and its plasticity to motor training, and its role in diseased (CP), and recovering (stroke) brain. In their research they develop early identification of CP in infants, and test feasibility of proprioceptive stroke-rehabilitation. They use novel neuroimaging methods (i.a. ultrafast fMRI) and 3D-motion analysis.
