Four travel grants for summer courses abroad for ELEC BSc/MSc students

School of Electrical Engineering awards travel grants for ELEC BSc and MSc students for summer courses organized abroad during the summer 2026.

School of Electrical Engineering awards travel grants for ELEC BSc and MSc students for summer courses organized abroad during the summer 2026. Max. four grants will be distributed, and the amount of one grant is EUR 300–500 depending on the expenses of the summer school. The grant is to cover travel expenses and/or tuition fees.
The travel grants are primarily intended for summer schools at ELEC's partner universities but can be awarded for other summer studies on a discretionary basis. Aalto’s general study exchange principles apply to the summer school grants. To be eligible for the grant, you need to have a minimum grade average of 2.0, minimum of 30 completed credits (or attended one full semester if you’ve been selected directly to a Master’s programme), and the summer course credits must be included in your degree at Aalto. If more applicants than available grants, decisions will be based on the academic index. ELEC summer grant is not awarded if you receive other funding from Aalto for the course, e.g. the Erasmus+ short-term mobility grant.
After the summer course, you need to fill in the After short-term mobility -form and hand in a course certificate.

Application:

  • Short free format motivation letter (why this course, and how relates to your studies) with the summer course program and estimate of expenses (combined no more than 500 words!)
  • Confirmation from the planning officer of your study programme that the credits can be included in your Aalto degree (e.g. agreed via email)
  • Acceptance letter/email from the host institution (can be submitted later if not available yet)

Submit the application documents in pdf-format at the latest on 31 May to outgoing-elec@aalto.fi with the subject line “Summer course grant application“. You can submit the application before the place is confirmed. However, the grant will be paid only after you have received the acceptance from the host institution.

Students’ opportunities for language learning to expand from autumn 2026

Founded in 2025, KiePe – Network for Language Centre Pedagogy, Teaching and Research – will broaden the range of language courses available to students at universities in the Helsinki metropolitan area. The KiePe network, composed of the University of Helsinki, Aalto University, the University of the Arts Helsinki, and Hanken School of Economics, will offer their students the chance to take elective language courses at any of the network universities in the future.
Students will be able register for courses via the cross-institutional studies service (RIPA) from autumn 2026. By autumn 2028, the study paths of the network universities will be harmonised to some extent, which will make cross-institutional studies even easier.
Students wishing to take language courses outside their home university can register for language courses offered by the network universities through the cross-institutional studies service and view the course offerings on the universities’ websites. More detailed information about the course offering and registration practices will be provided in August 2026.
