Experimental contemporary art exhibition in Imatra
Välillä väärässä (Sometimes wrong) is an eventful and experimental contemporary art exhibition at Väärätalo, Koskenparta, City of Imatra. The exhibition is a collaboration between the City of Imatra and the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. The works are connected to Imatra either through their location, subject matter, or other conceptual links.
"Väärätalo has been vacant for three years, and it's great to have this exhibition there. This kind of collaboration breathes new life into the building and gives people the opportunity to say goodbye to it", says Panu Kärri, Tourism and Events Manager for the City of Imatra.
The exhibition consists of media installations, spatial works, performances, sound works, photographs, drawings, murals, and a radio program. Many of the works are based on interaction between the viewer and the work. As a building, Väärätalo frames the works with its history, recent past, and present.
"The future of Väärätalo after the exhibition is still open. The change of the city planning has become legally binding, and the next steps for the development of the property will be outlined in the coming months", says Kärri.
As a building, Väärätalo is in a state between the past and the future, as its maintenance has been neglected. The works in the exhibition are built around this situation and are encounters between the past and the future.
The working process has taken the creators into unknown territory in many ways and challenged them to tolerate uncertainty and face unpredictable situations, which has opened up new ways of seeing and doing things.
In addition to students and staff from Aalto University, the exhibition also features students and staff from the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of the Arts Helsinki, as well as artists from Imatra.
