Aalto University coordinates the international consortium which was granted funding for the European Media and Immersion Lab (EMIL) -project. The EMIL project’s main objective is to set up a dedicated VR Media Lab to foster innovation and new solutions in the field of XR media. It will develop technologies, methodologies and tools for radically new applications, services and products. The objective of the project is to break the traditional boundaries between roles and nations to get the creative industry operators to collaborate in new ways, while stimulating ideas, innovation and solutions to build a thriving XR ecosystem for the European digital market.

EMIL’s lab network cooperates in XR research and development. It offers open access research, technical services and its network for the use of industries such as media, gaming, healthcare, manufacturing, fashion, architecture, publishing, education, urban planning, agriculture, environmental planning, cultural heritage and art.

As a part of the EMIL project there will be two open calls for third party projects, first in January and second in August 2023. An indicative budget for the project is EUR 2.8 million for each open call and the funded projects will be granted funding between EUR 250 000 and 500 000.
