Scholars from the Department of Marketing at Aalto University School of Business presented their research about CEO influence on the competitive behavior of the firm at the Strategic Management Society Annual Conference. The research investigates the self-regulatory psychological traits of the CEO and its consequences on the success of the competitive actions the firm undertakes.

The study finds that companies with CEO’s who have an extensive tendency to push movement from means to goals (coined a “just-do-it” attitude), appear to initiate competitive actions that do not create value for the firm. Consequently, the study contributes to the theory of competitive dynamics, where earlier research has found ample empirical evidence for the success of competitively aggressive behavior. The research was conducted in co-operation between Aalto University, Saint Petersburg State University and Korea University.

Strategic Management Society Annual Conference is a premier research conference in strategy research. The conference attracted this year a record of 1467 competitive paper submissions from researchers in academic institutions and private firms. In total the conference had 1173 attendees representing more than 400 academic institutions and private firms. The conference was arranged from September 17th to 20th in Berlin, Germany
