Borrow a researcher for an hour – top digital experts offer free Skype conversations and coaching 23–27 April

Are you interested in 5G, blockchains, crowdsourcing or perhaps digital ethics? Call a researcher week offers a unique opportunity to have a chat with experts.

Utilising and spreading research information in the most efficient way is an important part of universities’ third task: social impact. That is why the Digital Disruption of Industry consortium led by Aalto University and funded by the Strategic Research Council at the Academy of Finland wants to give citizens, media, companies and communities access to the expertise of their researchers in a completely new way: with a free one-hour Skype conversation.

‘The idea is based on open doors concept: we wanted to give the public access to our operations and have people chatting with us about topics related to the digital revolution that we have researched or that we will be studying in the future.  Exchanging ideas is important because the digital revolution concerns virtually the whole society’, says Postdoctoral Researcher Titi Ertiö from the University of Turku.

A total of 15 researchers from Aalto University, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Lappeenranta University of Technology and the University of Turku are participating as experts. Topics include, for example, 5G, industrial internet, digital inequality, data sharing, co-creation methods, smart cities and trust in business.

Postdoctoral Researcher Kimmo Karhu from Aalto University is specialised in platform strategies, blockchains, digitalisation and the licensing of open source code.

‘Platform economy, blockchains and many other pieces of digitalisation often remain very vague for companies. I hope that, in each discussion, one of these pieces can be examined and understood, and perhaps we’ll also get to consider how you could use them in business. I hope that especially small businesses and organisations are encouraged to use this opportunity’, says Karhu.

‘During this week, I expect people to take this opportunity and ask us some really challenging questions. It would also be nice to hear what they think about the Call a researcher campaign’, says Titi Ertiö.

The conversations are confidential, but each person booking a discussion is responsible for not disclosing trade secrets.
