Assistant professor Arno Solin was elected the Computer Science teacher of the year 2023. Arno received thanks for well-planned and clear lecture materials and hands-on exercises that supported learning and made it interesting. The students appreciated his ability to make the topic easily understandable and provide a clear introduction to the concepts in AI.

Picks from the course feedback of CS-C1000 Introduction to Artificial Intelligence:

  • The lectures were really interesting and also the lecturer was really good. Also, the course was on a really nice introduction level so following the lectures was really pleasant.
  • The course was not only informative, but also entertaining. It was great to see so many applications of AI as examples in lectures.
  • The exercises were the most important and the most fruitful part of this course. This provided us the opportunity to see how the theoretical concepts are implemented in practice to get a better understanding how artificial intelligence works.
  • I thoroughly enjoyed both the lectures and the exercises. The lecturer's presentations skills, knowledge about the subject and occasional jokes to lighten up the mood were all top notch. Lectures covered a lot of ground in a short time, and got me very interested in several topic areas of AI. I found the concepts clearly explained even if most were totally new to me. The computer assignments were especially great; quite easy hands-on stuff to play with and learn from, but I'm also taking Python programming at the same time so I was able to take a peek at what's happening under the hood.

The teacher award has been granted since 2007. The teacher of the year receives a certificate of honour and a reward of 1000 euros.
