What do you do for work?

As a professor of radio astronomy, I study active galaxies, perform observations with the Metsähovi radio telescope, and teach and supervise students at all levels.

Can you give one example of how you promote equality, diversity and inclusion?

These days, there are attempts to create discord and inequality between people. It is important to me that we understand that all of us living on Earth are of the same family and have the same roots. Nothing in the entire vast universe is closer to us than the other people, animals, absolutely everything living here. The starry sky has inspired science, art and philosophies around the world. Nations and cultures have developed from common starting points, with the same kind of thoughts and reflections. Regardless of where exactly we come from, we are similar even in our apparent differences.

Every day I meet another person as my equal, without preconceived expectations or classifications, looking for a common understanding. Often even a simple friendly, accepting greeting or smile is enough to create mutual appreciation and trust.
