Aalto University FaCT MA students meet with success in international fashion and textile competitions of summer 2019
Pitti Filati is the key International rendez-vous for the textile and knitwear industry where new knit garments, yarns and trends are launched. This year Pitti Filati exhibited the artwork of the Young Talents for Sustainable Thinking by Salvatore Ferragamo contestants. The theme of the contest was sustainable fashion, especially seen through patchwork technique. Aalto University’s students Anna Sorri, Juha Vehmaanperä and Yami Verducci were invited to participate.
Fashion, Clothing and Textile Design MA student Anna Sorri won the competition with her work Daydreaming. As prize, she will travel to Florence for an internship at the prestigious luxury brand Salvatore Ferragamo, which is known especially for its quality shoes as well as Hollywood star looks. In addition to its shoe collection, Ferragamo designs accessories such as bags and some selected clothing. Since Pitti Filati is over for this year, Anna Sorri’s dress will be exhibited in the Museo Salvatore Ferragamon Sustainable Thinking showroom.
Another remarkable contest within the industry, the ITS Talent (International Talent Support) will be held 11-13 July 2019 in Trieste, Italy. Fashion, Clothing and Textile Design MA student Anni Salonen is shortlisted in three different categories at the event: the main final Fashion, with altogether 11 finalists, and the special categories of the customer brands Illy and Lotto.
During its 18-year history ITS Talent has developed into the most highly recognised platform to showcase and support the strongest young designer talents. It has created an ever growing network that supports creativity and built an impressive creative archive, a unique collection tracing the history of fashion evolution. Many of the ITS finalists selected up to now occupy key positions in the most important fashion brands or have established themselves with their own lines.
The winner of ITS Talent will receive a cash prize as well as a mentoring deal with a professional. The collection of the winner will be displayed in either the Pitti Uomo men’s fashion event in Florence or Super event for women’s fashion in Milan.
