Aalto successful in EU Erasmus Mundus call: two new programmes
The new programmes are:
- Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Biological and Chemical Engineering for a Sustainable Bioeconomy (School of Chemical Engineering)
- Re:Anima - European Joint Masters in Animation (School of Arts, Design and Architecture)
Through this call, EU funds total of 44 new programmes, one programme receiving typically 3-4 MEUR for a programme period of 4-5 years. An Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree is a prestigious, integrated, international study programme, jointly delivered by an international consortium of higher education institutions. Students study in minimum two different countries and receive a double (or joint) degree. Programmes have generous scholarship scheme.
Re:Anima is the first Erasmus Mundus programme at Aalto ARTS
Anna Heiskanen, head of the Department of Film, Television and Scenography, waits eagerly for the new collaboration to start.
"Re:Anima programme wants to contribute to the expansion and strengthening of animation and creative arts education in Europe. Creative industries and their meaning to economy is rising rapidly and the industry needs qualified professionals. The graduates will be professionals in storytelling with a focus on societal issues and critical thinking thus addressing the issues of democracy and society that rose also up in Aalto strategy planning session."
The forthcoming intense collaboration with Portuguese and Belgian partner universities will offer students strong international networks already during their studies. Another positive thing is the company collaboration within the programme: it opens up new possibilities for both the students and the universities. The first master’s programme in bioeconomy in Europe
The new Erasmus Mundus programme at the School of Chemical Engineering is the first master’s programme in bioeconomy in Europe.
"The programme brings together biotechnology, biochemistry and biobased materials. Erasmus Mundus programmes attract excellent students, so we expect it to raise the already good Aalto student achievement level even more", says professor Eero Kontturi from the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems, in charge of the programme.
Partner universities in this programme come from France, Belgium and Estonia.
Both programmes have their first student intake in 2020. Aalto University was among the first Finnish universities entering into Erasmus Mundus collaboration.
