Aalto University placed 184th in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020, compared to 181st place from last year. This year was the third year running that Aalto has placed in the top 200.

The Times Higher Education general ranking measures universities’ success according to 13 indicators related to the international outlook, research, citations, teaching and industry income. Aalto’s strongest area was the international outlook.

The ranking includes almost 1 400 universities across 92 countries. For the fourth year in a row, the University of Oxford leads the rankings in first place.

The Times Higher Education also publishes a ranking list of young universities. In the listing published last June, Aalto University was placed 18th among universities under 50 of age, and fifth among millennial universities.

For a university like Aalto, which specialises in technology as well as business and arts, general rankings may be less relevant than rankings by field or subject which the Times Higher Education is expected to release later this year. In the ShanghaiRanking by subject published this June, eight of Aalto’s fields ranked in the global top 100.
