This webinar will introduce current developments and possibilities in the use of bio-based materials in industry, with a focus on textiles as well as other application areas. The session will highlight examples of alternative renewable feedstocks, including materials derived from orange peels, algae, nettle, hemp but also cotton cultivated in Europe. Furthermore, the use of textile waste in innovative ways is presented.
Developing alternative materials and moving away from fossil-based feedstocks are important goals within the bioeconomy approach. The webinar will open discussion on how bio-based materials can contribute to a more sustainable material future and how such materials may be developed, scaled and applied in industrial contexts.

The webinar is organised by the CELLFIL project, a Horizon Europe project supporting the transition of the European textile industry towards more circular models through the development and scaling of lyocell filament technologies. CELLFIL works with renewable and alternative feedstocks, such as orange peel and cotton textile waste, and aims to support safe, sustainable and economically viable upscaling in Europe.
